EMA's Head of Human Medicines Development and Evaluation Patrick Le Courtois retires after 16 years of service

Guido Rasi, Executive Director of the European Medicines Agency (EMA), today announced that Dr Patrick Le Courtois, Head of Human Medicines Development and Evaluation, will retire from the Agency in August 2013.
"Patrick's retirement brings to a close a remarkable career of 16 years of service to the Agency. I would like to formally thank Patrick for his innumerable contributions to public health and for his resolute commitment to helping build a strong European medicines system," said Professor Rasi. "I wish him every success in his retirement."
Since joining the Agency in September 1997, Dr Le Courtois has held various management positions. He has been part of the EMA's senior management team since 2001 when he became Head of Pre-Authorisation Evaluation of Medicines for Human Use. In 2009, he was appointed Head of Human Medicines Development and Evaluation at the Agency, the position he is now retiring from.
Talking about leaving the Agency, Dr Le Courtois said, "it has been a great privilege to work at the EMA. Not only has it allowed me to pursue my passion for public health but it has also given me the opportunity to contribute to developing the EMA to the strong and robust European regulatory body it is today.
"I would like to thank my colleagues for their fantastic support over the past 16 years. The Agency has been an inspirational place to work and great things have been achieved.
"I very much look forward to following the developments of the EMA in the future."
