EMA’s environmental management system has been certified with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), recognising the Agency’s commitment to environmental sustainability. EMAS is a voluntary standard for environmental management and auditing established by the European Union (EU). It helps organisations evaluate, report, and enhance their environmental performance and offers a framework for improving environmental efforts, conserving energy, and optimising resource use.
The EMAS certification is an important acknowledgment of our efforts to strive for continuous improvement and reduce our environmental footprint. As an EU body, EMA takes its responsibility seriously to protect the environment for current and future generations
EMA protects the environment in several ways: the office building is environmentally certified with a BREEAM Excellent rating and an Energy Label A++. Procurement practices are eco-conscious. This is for example reflected in the requirement of EU Ecolabel for consumables, and use of sustainable materials. The implementation of digital workflows throughout the agency reduces the need for printing. When selecting replacement of electronic equipment such as laptops and other small electrical devices, products and appliances, the energy rating is included in the evaluation.
In addition, EMA actively promotes environmental awareness among its staff, encouraging their involvement.
The environmental statement, which analyses EMA’s performance for the year 2023, provides information to the public and other interested parties about EMA’s environmental performance, compliance with applicable legal obligations and other relevant information. This report will be published on an annual basis.
The EMAS registration is valid for three years and can be renewed following a successful reassessment.
