The incident management plan for veterinary medicines provides a strategy for the European medicines regulatory network to handle safety-related incidents involving new events or information on authorised veterinary medicines on the European market promptly and efficiently.

The plan provides procedures and management structures in the following areas:

  • Evaluating potential incidents
  • Managing the response to incidents
  • Communicating within the regulatory network and with marketing authorisation holders
  • Closing the incident

It covers all authorised veterinary medicines, irrespective of the authorisation route.

Implementing the plan involves the European Medicines Agency (EMA), European Commission and national competent authorities in the EU Member States.

The plan was developed in 2010 taking account of experience since 2004 with the crisis management plan on safety issues and broadening its scope. It was last revised in 2022.
